Last January, due to a temporary restriction on NIH employees’ participation in external meetings, we were forced to cancel two presentations from the ISCA 2025 scientific program at the last minute.

We are now delighted to inform you that an additional ISCA 2025 session has been scheduled to accommodate these presentations.

Abstract Submission Deadline Extended to December 6th

The deadline for abstract submission has been extended to December 6th at 23:59 CET.
This decision was made as we recognize that, at this time of the year, other conferences or academic deadlines might coincide with the original abstract submission deadline of ISCA 2025.

Passing of Prof. Arthur Bergen

It is with deep sadness that we recently learned of the sudden and unexpected passing of Professor Arthur Bergen from UMC Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Prof. Bergen was an outstanding member of the albinism research community. Throughout his career, he made significant contributions to advancing knowledge on albinism, particularly in relation to OA1.

He was among the keynote speakers of ISCA 2022.. His passion and perseverance were truly evident.

He will be deeply missed, as reflected in the numerous obituaries published online, such as the tribute released by the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience.

Meet the Scientific Advisory Committee of ISCA 2025

We are delighted to introduce the ISCA 2025 Scientific Advisory Committee. It is made up of 16 international albinism experts, clinicians and researchers, from the USA, France, the UK, Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, China and Japan.

Their expertise spans a broad spectrum of scientific fields, including Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Genetics, Cell Biology, Hematology, Neurology and Visual science.

The Committee is led by an Executive Board featuring Doctors Alexandra Rebsam (Paris, France), Benoît Arveiler (Bordeaux, France), Jonathan Zippin (NYC, USA), Mervyn Thomas (Leicester, UK), and Michael Marks (Philadelphia, USA)

Many of these experts contributed to the previous edition of ISCA and participated in the European Days of Albinism conferences. Some were even members of the Scientific Committee for the first EDA in 2012 (more info here). We are very grateful for their support.

Special issue on Albinism for IOVS (Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science)!

In collaboration with ISCA 2022 (the International Scientific Conference on Albinism) organized by the Global Albinism Alliance, IOVS (the Journal of Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science) is pleased to announce a special issue on Albinism. We welcome submissions of original research using human, animal, or cell-based models examining any aspect of visual system structure or function in albinism. While the issue will include peer-reviewed articles based on research presented at ISCA 2022, it is not a requirement to have presented the work at ISCA for the article to be eligible for inclusion in the feature issue.

Submissions will open December 1, 2022 and close May 1, 2023.

The editors for this special issue include an international panel of experts in the field, including Dr. Joseph Carroll (Medical College of Wisconsin), Dr. Marion Munk (University of Bern), Dr. Frank Proudlock (University of Leicester), Dr. Giovanni Staurenghi (University of Milan), Dr. Sasha Strul (University of Minnesota), and Dr. Mervyn Thomas (University of Leicester).
